Modular Progressive Pride Flag :: Knitting Pattern by Kim Smith

£1 from every pattern bought, will go to The Trevor Project!

*Please note this is a DIGITAL DOWNLOAD ONLY*

Using the same method as the popular Northeasterly by Skeinanigans, Kim has adapted the technique to include joining pieces on the right and left side of your work!

Working join-as-you-go, this awesome Modular Progressive Pride Flag has no seams to bother with, which makes it really rather addicting to knit.

In a world where there are still so many injustices toward Trans people, BIPOC & POC, this is a great way to show inclusion.

Show your support for the LGBTQIA+ community by making a massive one for your chair/bed or a small flag to hang in a window. They also make GREAT capes for pride marches!

Sizes: Depending on the yarn you use, you can change the size of your finished flag. The pattern was written with 2 sizes in mind.
The big version is made with DK yarn. (The mini version is made with 4ply yarn).

Finished Approx Measurements: You can make your flag longer by casting on more stitches when you start the rainbow side.
BIG in DK: 32inches x 42.5inches (from edge of white to tip of black 25.5in)
SMALL in 4ply: 14inches x 16inches (from edge of white to tip of black 8in)

Gauge in Garter Stitch:
Gauge Approx 16st and 32 rows = 4” in garter. (Approx 20st x 38 Rows = 4” in garter)

Suggested Needle Size: (as always, use a needle size that will get you closest to gauge. Luckily this isn’t a fitted garment so if it’s a little bigger or smaller, you don’t have to worry!)
5.5mm (2.75mm)
You can do the whole project with
1x 120cm (60cm) circular needle
But I do recommend short dpns for the icord.
You will also need some lockable stitch markers.

Yarns:
We highly encourage you to use whatever yarns you want! Feel free to mix bases and colours too - as long as they are all the same thickness, you’ll be golden. In my prototype I used scraps, striping multiple dark blues for the blue section. There are also loads of indie dyers that do pride flag sets, and supporting LGBTQIA+ makers is another way to celebrate Pride. Here are the yarns we used (from Alterknit Universe) for our samples, as pictured:

ERRATA: A revised version will be uploaded soon!

It has been noted that the cast on for the small size on the white triangle is an odd number- and it needs to be an even number! It should be 34st to cast on.

Here’s the revised Sl st count at the end of each section. I’ve done them backwards working from Black. Below are my notes, hopefully they help you :)

Top of Black- left side: 75 (36)

Main black- left side: 57 (27)

Top of black- right side: 75 (36)

Main black- right: 57 (27).

Top of brown- left side: 72 (34)
