LINEN / FLAX
About the fibre: With a natural sheen and a long strong fibre, Linen is considered to be one of the oldest fibres in the Western World. Primarily produced in Europe, Irish linen became common around 500AD with fabrics dating back to 10,000 BC having been found.
Spinning tip: It's very stringy and you might need to practice this a bit before you get a steady rhythm going. There are two methods of spinning linen, 'Dry' and 'Wet'. Wet spun will give you a much smoother fibre but it does require a bit more concentration. Because the fibres have been brushed, you don't need any special equipment like a distaff to spin from this top- but I would recommend a little look on Youtube to see how other people go about this if you've never tried before. It's such fun!
